Looking for the ART car By: M. Elaine Twichell [Click here to print article] The Depot Center for the Arts is looking for a car that we can enter into the first car show of the year during Spring Fling on May 19th. The Downtown Management Board hosts four car shows during the year on Clinton Avenue, but the first is always special to car enthusiasts, because those nostalgic rides have been in storage for the winter, and we can hardly wait to get behind the wheel and show them off again. The Arts council wants to participate in a whole different way this year. We want to enter a car – an ART car! What better way to show off the style of our artists than to create a one of a kind automobile. But, we need your help. First: Do you have a car, van, truck or tank that would make a beautiful blank canvas that you would be willing to donate? Your donation would be tax deductible, and it will be turned into a unique piece of art. Second: We are looking for ideas on how to paint, tile, sculpt, paper, stencil, or whatever to the “Art Car”. If you have and idea or concept you would like to submit, please send it to us along with your sketches. Third: we are looking for volunteers who would like to be involved in the creation of the Art Car. You will be part of history, and have a great time while you are doing it. No age requirement, just a sense of adventure is all you need. Please call 989 224 2429 or email us at ccarts@voyager.net if you’re interested. You can also submit your concept by mail. The Depot Center for the Arts, 107 E. Railroad Street, St. Johns, MI 48879 Deadline for concepts is March 31st. Please join us March 4th for the “First Sunday Gallery Stop” from 1 – 3 pm. Our guest this month will be Tamar Aldrich from Owosso, who will be giving a free Chalk Pastel painting demonstration. Tamar’s work is on display this month along with artist Brett Xavier. Refreshments will be served. Gallery Hours are Wed – Fri from 11am until 6pm, and Saturdays from 10:00 until 2:00.For more information about upcoming events check out our calendar at www.clintoncountyarts.org |
