CLINTON COUNTY IDOL By: Bill Tennant [Click here to print article] CLINTON COUNTY IDOL On July 8 & 9, the Shell Committee will be trying something new this summer. Built on an idea taken from the popular T.V. show “American Idol”, Clinton County residents will be given a chance at stardom by performing on Tuesday, July 8 with the top 12 performers returning the next evening, July 9 for the BIG SHOW, “Clinton County Idol”. The audience will then vote with the top performer taking home a $200 check. The runner-ups will receive $50 & $25 respectively. Singers must be 12 years of age or older and a resident of Clinton County. There is no upper age limit. The Idol Committee is encouraging older residents to participate. Flyers with additional information and the registration form can be picked up at the Clinton County Art Gallery (or see below), Briggs Library or the City of St. Johns Offices, all located in downtown St. Johns. St. Johns City Park Performance Shell A CONTEST FOR SOLO SINGERS ONLY Singers must be 12 years old or older and a resident of Clinton County Singers must register by July 1, 2008 Contest is limited to the first 30 applicants Songs must be appropriate for family listening Singers must have 2 songs ready to perform Songs must be of reasonable length (around 3 min. or less) There is a $10 registration fee payable to “Clinton County Arts Council” Accompaniment is limited to one of the following: CD, Solo Guitar or Solo Keyboard Tuesday, July 8th is the preliminary round with all 30 singers performing a song of their choice. A panel of 3 judges will select 12 singers to come back to sing again the next evening. The audience will then vote, selecting 6 singers to come back to sing a second song. The audience will vote again, selecting our top three winners receiving cash awards – 1st place $200, 2nd place $50 and 3rd place $25.
